Impression of the Sunset by the Sea

The Impression of the Sunset by the Sea library, designed by I-Ming Feng, draws its unique properties and concept from the captivating colors and atmosphere of a sunset on the sea. The space is bathed in a romantic glow as sunlight filters through the orange-tinted glass, creating a sense of tranquility and comfort under the curved structure. Visitors are enticed to linger and immerse themselves in the surroundings, reluctant to leave.

The realization of this design combines a metal structure with stained glass, resulting in a harmonious blend of strength and elegance. The curved metal shape and the interplay of light and color through the stained glass create a captivating visual experience for visitors.

The design process for this project involved careful consideration of the floor structure in the two-story building. The challenge was to establish a strong connection between the new metal structure and the existing building after removing the old floor structure. Through meticulous planning and execution, the design seamlessly integrates the old and the new, creating a cohesive space that honors the community's history while embracing its future.

Construction for the Impression of the Sunset by the Sea library is set to begin in June 2022 in Taipei. The design team conducted extensive research to ensure that the impression and theme of the sunset on the sea were translated into an abstract shape and color palette. The goal was to create a space that evokes the natural beauty of a sunset without becoming a mere imitation.

This new library will serve as a central gathering place for the old community, fostering a sense of unity and providing a space for people to meet, read, and collaborate. It will become a symbol of the community's revitalization and a testament to the power of design to transform spaces and bring people together.
